The Tiny Habits Method: Scaling Down Goals to Prevent Procrastination

Scientific background: Fogg, B. J. (2019). Tiny Habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

When you try to start a massive habit like 'read 50 pages a day' or 'write 2,000 words,' your brain's threat center raises alarm bells. Micro-habits bypass this resistance by requiring almost zero activation energy.

Implementation Protocol

1

Isolate the Micro-Action

Take your target habit and shrink it down to a 30-second version (e.g. read 1 page, write 1 sentence, do 2 pushups).

2

Attach to an Existing Anchor

Find a solid daily routine anchor (e.g., 'After I pour my morning coffee,' 'After I open my laptop').

3

Execute Without Expectation

Complete the tiny action without feeling obligated to do more. Celebrating tiny wins wires the neural pathway for repetition.

4

Allow Organic Expansion

Once the micro-habit is automated, let it naturally scale up as your cognitive friction drops and confidence builds.

Summary Protocol

Small habits started consistently yield massive compound returns over time. Start tiny, remove friction, and stay consistent.

Stop Procrastinating. Start Planning.

Build routines that stick

Ditch the complicated todo boards. Download Pip to set exactly three morning commitments, seal them before 10 AM, and build streaks grounded in human biology.
